There are very few things Android users would want to borrow from Apple's iOS, but let's move beyond the fanboy/girl biases and admit that Apple actually does a few things pretty well. One of those things is looks, and the new iOS 7 looks pretty amazing to me.While the upcoming iOS 7 does have plenty of new features (we've been testing out the beta version for the last several weeks), one of the best additions is the Control Center, which actually mimics the Quick Settings that most Android devices already have. The only significant difference is the look, and I happen to like iOS 7's better.If you want to put the Control Center version of Quick Settings on your Samsung Galaxy S3 or other Android device, well, there's an app for that. How to Get Control Center Style Quick SettingsThe aptly named Control Center is a free Android app by Hi Tools Studio. It's more or less an exact clone, including the translucent frosted glass effect and pastel colors.

Initial Setup and PreferencesOnce you've downloaded the app from Google Play, you'll need to set up a few of the Control Center's features. Firstly, you must activate the app by tapping the Start Service tab. From there, you can head over to Touchable Area and adjust the height and width of the pull-up tab. You can move the Touchable Area to the left or right side, or keep it in the center. If you don't want to see it at all, you can get rid of it completely and still access the Control Center by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. You can also decide if you want vibration on or off when the Control Center is accessed.

App ConfigurationSince this is basically a complete port of the Control Center, some apps are not setup automatically. The Camera and Clock icons, for example, would normally take you to Apple's camera and clock apps, so you'll have to configure the settings to open the Android versions instead. As the app suggests, just long press on an icon to update and configure it to the stock Android app, or a third-party one if you prefer. After you tap and hold on the icon you want to update, a list of applications should pop up. From this list you will select which app or widget you want to launch for the icon in the Control Center. In this case, we would select the Clock and Camera apps, respectively. Now, when you click on the Clock or Camera icon from the Control Center, those apps will actually launch.

If you're like me and tend to install a lot of APKs (application files), you're probably tired of seeing the "Install" confirmation that always pops up.Hamzah Malik also saw this as an unnecessary step, and developed a mod called AutoInstaller to combat it. In order to get this function on your Android device, you will need to make sure you are rooted with the Xposed Framework installed, as well as have installation from "Unknown sources" enabled. If you're already an APK installing pro, chances are you're already set.

John Legere seems to operate under the philosophy of, "If you're going to be late to the party, throw a better one." On Tuesday, Legere announced T-Mobile's intention to build the nation's first true 5G network, following AT&T's rollout of its "5G Evolution" network. A network which many said was, to put it in polite words, nonsense.In his announcement, the T-Mobile CEO chided AT&T for its "new" network, poking fun at its limited and untimely releases. But mostly Legere pointed out what many in the industry had said: AT&T's "5G Evolution" is not really 5G. Legere states that what really powers "5G Evolution" is LTE technologies, technologies that T-Mobile released themselves last year. As if AT&T hadn't already taken enough of a beating from the news last week, Legere made sure to get his own punches in.
Legere also took the time to go after Verizon, happily sharing that their network speeds have fallen by 14% since "copying" T-Mobile's Unlimited LTE plan. AT&T didn't escape unscathed on that front either â€” according to Legere, their speeds have also dropped 4%.T-Mobile's announcement isn't baseless, or speculative. They have the tech to back up their claims. The company recently outspent all others at an auction for high-performing 600 MHz spectrum airwaves. Part of this spectrum is what will power T-Mobile's 5G network, the other going towards enhancing and spreading T-Mobile's current 4G LTE network. By default, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ only have 15 media volume steps â€” in other words, there are only 15 increments between silent and full volume. That's usually fine if you're using your phone's speakers, but if you're wearing headphones, more fine-tuned controls would be helpful.In the past, you could increase this to as many as 150 volume steps by installing Samsung's own SoundAssistant app. But for some reason, Samsung has made this app unavailable to Galaxy S9 users on the Play Store. We're thinking this is a temporary glitch, but nonetheless, we pulled the SoundAssistant APK, so you can sideload the app and add more volume steps to your S9 â€” no root needed.Don't Miss: 'Adapt Sound' Makes Your S9's AKG Earbuds Sound Even Better

Step 1: Install SoundAssistantAs I mentioned, this is an official first-party Samsung app designed specifically for tweaking audio settings on Galaxy phones, but it's not currently available to download on the Play Store if you're using a Galaxy S9. We're hoping this changes soon and Samsung makes it available to the S9 again, so if you want to double-check, you can try the SoundAssistant Play Store listing here.If that link's still broken, no biggie â€” you can sideload the APK file to install the app. To do that, tap the link below from your Galaxy S9 or S9+, then hit "Save" when prompted. From there, open the APK by tapping the File Downloaded notification or by using any file browser app, then press "Install" when prompted.Download Samsung's official SoundAssistant app (.apk) Note: If you're using Chrome or another browser aside from Samsung Internet to download the above file, you'll be prompted to enable Unknown Sources for that app. To do that, just tap "Settings" on the popup after opening the APK, then enable the switch next to "Allow from this source."

Step 2: Increase Media Volume StepsNext, if you haven't already done so, you'll probably want to make your volume rocker control media volume by default, as this tweak only adds more steps to your media volume controls.From SoundAssistant's main menu, start by tapping the "Advanced" option. There are plenty other audio controls in here and they're worth experimenting with, but the only one that pertains to this guide is the "Change step volume" slider. Use this slider to increase the number of media volume steps â€” the lower you set the slider, the more volume steps there will be. It's a little unintuitive, but think of it this way. Imagine there are 150 steps for your media volume control. By default, each time you press your volume rocker, it adjusts the media volume by 10 steps, meaning if you press it 15 times it will run the gamut between 0 and 150.However, if you set the "Change step volume" slider to 1 in SoundAssistant, it will only adjust the volume by 1 step each time, meaning you'd have to press the volume button 150 times to go from 0 to 150. The same holds true for the other increments, so a "2" setting equates to 75 steps, a "5" setting gives you 30 steps, and so on.With SoundAssistant, you can really get some fine-tuned volume controls on your Galaxy S9.
